Khaaaaaaannnn!

What kind of a world do we live in that may torpedo a Star Trek trilogy by Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country director Nicholas Meyer but permit a Star Trek movie from the exhausted cathedral of retread schlock that has made up Quentin Tarantino's ouevre since roughly 2000?

One which needs to be replaced by an alternative universe as quickly as possible, that's what kind.

A world that favors shock value, ugliness, and coarseness over good storytelling, IM(not very)HO, that's the world we live in.

I'm unsurprised at the Tarantino thing but dismayed over the "may torpoedo" Meyer thing - those really were the two best TOS movies (again, IM(not very)HO). And I'm only a second-hand Trek fan - my father is the real Trekker.

They were two of the best, indeed. I think the problem is that the people making Star Trek don't seem to understand Star Trek. That PPV series was a big clue.
